Our Foundation:

A Life Lived with Dementia is a Life of Value

We believe that every life has value.

Homecoming is dedicated to recognizing life’s value regardless of cognitive or physical ability. We will do this in the way we provide an environment that restores freedom, community and purpose.

We are committed to caring for people in a way that maximizes freedom and choice. Although the current approach to memory care emphasizes safety, it can quite often restrict freedoms. We restore freedom of choice through our policy of unrestricted access to substantial outdoor space. Through a combination of personnel and technology, we maintain a secure, monitored environment that balances safety and freedom, allowing members of the Homecoming community to wander, to explore, to escape the confines of an indoor space.

Life’s value is found in community. We encourage community in our small home living: members gather together within the rhythms of a normal life, helping to prepare meals, to clean, to care for the house pet and to find peace and relaxation around the hearth.

Part of a valuable life is having something of value to contribute. We believe that despite the diagnosis of dementia, most people can remain a useful and integral part of the community. We are committed to finding just how each member of our community can contribute by giving them the chance to be responsible, to help with tasks in the home, and to care for their pets as well as the animals in the barnyard. We also give elders a chance to help our grounds crew care for the 15 acre campus.

Life’s value is found in real leisure. We love bingo at Homecoming, but we also love fishing, wandering in the woods, pausing for refreshment in the Homecoming Food Hall and listening to (or performing) live music. Elders will have the opportunity to participate in this and more at Homecoming.
